10/6/08 - Michael N. McAllister recently joined Grimaldi & Nelkin as a Staff Accountant. Mike has over three years of experience in public accounting. He provides accounting, review, and audit services to the firm’s diverse client base. Michael graduated with a B.S. in Accounting and Information Management from Roberts Wesleyan College in 2005, and is currently pursuing his license as a Certified Public Accountant.
Prior to joining Grimaldi & Nelkin, Michael was a senior accountant with a regional accounting firm in Central New York. His responsibilities were to conduct audits for clients in the financial institution, manufacturing, and broker-dealer industries.
8/25/08 - John B. Dubiel, CPA, CFE, Partner at Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, has received his Certification in Financial Forensics (CFF). The CFF encompasses fundamental and specialized forensic accounting skills that CPA practitioners apply in a variety of service areas, including: bankruptcy and insolvency; computer forensics; economic damages; family law; fraud investigations; litigation support; stakeholder disputes and valuations.
John is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner with Grimaldi & Nelkin. He has extensive training and experience in the areas of fraud detection and prevention, and in the evaluation of internal controls of businesses.
John is President of the Board of Directors of Chadwick Residence, and is also a Member of the Audit Committee for the Board of Education for the Cicero-North Syracuse Central School District. He is Secretary of the Syracuse Chapter of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
7/22/08 - Dana L. Minotti has been promoted to the position of Senior Accountant. Dana graduated from Oswego State University in 2003. Upon graduation, she worked for another local public accounting firm, and in 2006, joined Grimaldi & Nelkin. Dana provides tax, accounting, and review services to clients of Grimaldi & Nelkin. Dana’s main focus is tax planning and compliance for individuals and businesses. Dana is Treasurer of the American Society of Women Accountants – Central New York Chapter.
7/10/08 - Patricia L. Oram, CPA, Manager in the firm of Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, attended the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts’ (NACVA) Business Valuation Certification and Training Seminar in Philadelphia, PA. The conference attendees covered a wide variety of valuation techniques to use in valuing a business for estate and gift tax purposes, buy-sell agreements, divorce and other litigation. NACVA is an association developed to give guidance in the valuation industry. They train and certify financial professionals in the valuation industry.
6/11/08 - William J. Harmatuk, CPA, John B. Dubiel, CPA, CFE, Karen A. Hovey, CPA, CFE, and Carolyn J. Lawless, CPA, Partners of Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, recently attended the Enterprise Network Worldwide’s 2008 Annual Symposium, from June 11 - June 13, 2008, in Toronto, Canada. The symposium included a variety of practice management topics such as enhancing firm culture, empowering your people, new technology, and marketing strategies, as well as discussion of global markets and other topics related to client service and firm growth.
6/6/08 - Grimaldi & Nelkin participates in the Tully Street Block Blitz, an event coordinated by the United Way of Central New York...On Friday, June 6th, a team of 10 dedicated individuals from Grimaldi & Nelkin partnered with several other businesses or organizations in the Syracuse area to assist in the "Tully Street Block Blitz". Organized by Home Headquarters, Inc. and the United Way, the idea behind the block blitz initiative was to gather volunteers to spend one day improving the aesthetics and exterior curb appeal of the homes and the surrounding neighborhood. The goal was to not only improve the aesthetics, but to do so in an environmentally friendly way that can become the prototype for both the neighborhood and the city. Members of our G&N team and approximately 50 other volunteers spent time painting, landscaping, and improving the overall appearance of five homes on the 500 block of Tully Street. Volunteer coordinator and senior staff accountant, Nancy Stilwell, was looking forward to working with other members of the Grimaldi & Nelkin team. "Participating in volunteer events together as a team to improve the community, enhances our strong commitment to a positive internal firm culture." Grimaldi & Nelkin is also a member of the Corporate Volunteer Council of Central New York, and many of our partners and staff regularly participate on boards and volunteer events for various not-for-profits in the Syracuse and Central New York area. The firm believes in a strong commitment to giving back to the community in which we work and live. Social responsibility is integral to a thriving community. 6/1/2008 - William J. Harmatuk, CPA, Managing Partner of Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, was nominated to serve on the Planning Board for the Enterprise Network Worldwide’s 2008 Annual Symposium, which will take place from June 11 - June 13, 2008, in Toronto, Canada. 1/21/2008 - John B. Dubiel, CPA, CFE, Partner in the firm of Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, recently attended the Enterprise Network Worldwide 2008 Leadership Forum and the Winning is Everything Conference, presented by the Advisory Board from January 21-23, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The conferences covered a variety of practice management topics such as strategic planning, marketing, technology and organizational consulting services, while maximizing client services.
1/20/2008 - Raymond V. Grimaldi, CPA/PFS, CFP®, AEP, CVA, ABV, Partner in the firm of Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, attended the AICPA Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference in Las Vegas held January 20th through the 23rd. The conference is held annually and sponsored by the AICPA. It is attended by CPAs and financial planners from across the United States. Ray in addition to being a CPA and CFP also is credentialed by the AICPA as a Personal Financial Planning Specialist (PFS). He services a diverse client base of individuals and private and closely held businesses.
12/10/2007 - Kathryn Field recently joined Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC as a Staff Accountant. She will provide tax, accounting, review and auditing services to the firm’s diverse client base. Kathy graduated from SUNY at Cortland with a B.A. in Economics and completed her accounting coursework at LeMoyne College. She is actively pursuing her license as a Certified Public Accountant.
Prior to joining Grimaldi & Nelkin, Kathy worked as a controller for a local manufacturer. She was responsible to oversee all the day-to-day accounting activities and staff, produce financial statements and budgets, as well as maintain bank, customer, and supplier relationships.
11/28/2007 - John Dubiel, CPA, CFE presented to local business owners at "Cookin' the Books - The Threat from Within". This seminar regarding the prevention & detection of Employee Fraud was sponsored in part by Grimaldi & Nelkin and other local organizations. The program was held to share ideas for fraud prevention and detection with the Central New York business community. Grimaldi & Nelkin can help businesses by providing key indicators of employee fraud and various controls and techniques to help reduce the threat of fraud from within an organization.
10/22/2007- Brian J. Kuraszewicz joins Grimaldi & Nelkin as a Staff Accountant. He provides tax and accounting services to corporations, partnerships, family owned businesses and individuals. Brian recently graduated from SUNYIT at Utica/Rome with his B.S. in Accounting and will be pursing his public accounting license. Prior to joining Grimaldi & Nelkin, Brian worked in the accounting office of a local convenience store chain.
10/01/2007 - Cheryl Cheryl K. Thomas, CPA recently joined Grimaldi & Nelkin as a Manager in the Tax Department. Her areas of practice include tax, accounting and financial planning services of closely-held businesses and individuals. Cheryl brings over 25 years of diverse public accounting experience to the firm. Prior to joining Grimaldi & Nelkin, she was employed for fifteen years with a regional firm, and ultimately operated her own private accounting practice for ten years. Cheryl is a Certified Public Accountant and a magna cum laude graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
9/21/2007 - William J. Harmatuk, CPA and John B. Dubiel, CPA, CFE, Partners in the firm of Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, attended the Enterprise Network Worldwide Northeast Regional Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The conference attendees covered a wide variety of topics including assisting clients with achieving their financial expectations and goals, deliver of and performance of high quality client services, and managing your practice to maximize client services. Enterprise Network Worldwide is an alliance of independent accounting firms working together to provide quality service to clients on a worldwide basis. Firms from the United States, Canada and Europe participated. Member firms offer innovative business solutions in a range of specialties including Assurance, Valuation, Financial Services, Tax and Family Owned Businesses.
7/20/2007 - John B. Dubiel, CPA, CFE and Robert S. Kotcher, CPA, Partners in the firm of Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC, attended the National Advanced Accounting and Auditing Technical Symposium (NAAATS) in Los Angeles, California on July 19-20th. The conference is held annually and sponsored by the AICPA. It is attended by CPAs from across the United States.
7/20/2007 - John B. Dubiel, CPA and Karen A. Hovey, CPA, both Certified Fraud Examiners with Grimaldi & Nelkin CPAs, PLLC attended the 18th Annual ACFE Fraud Conference and Exhibition on July 15-20, 2007 in Orlando, Florida. The Conference provided many interesting topics such as Tools, Tips and Techniques for Fraud Investigation, Fraud Fighting Proactively, and Best Practices and Case Studies. It was noted at the conference that “the CFE designation is now accepted for hiring and promotional purposes by major federal, state and local law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, the GAO, the Department of Defense, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and many others in the private sector.” |
